Abstract: | The linguistic data examined hereunder emphasise the richness and diversity of Romanian phraseological units built with monetary units. Most of the times, “realia” monetary units occur in phraseological combinations with a quantity element from the numeral class. Both the lexemes from the currency field, and the quantity elements bear semantic values, but also affective nuances. Since monetary units contain within their semantic matrix the idea of “quantity” /“value”, this concept is also often found in the semantic structure of the phraseological units which they are part of. At the same, we have identified a connection between the patterns with monetary units and meanings like “poorness”, “wretchedness”, “futility”, “avarice” and “disdain”. |
