Abstract:
The paper presents, in a Romance context, the many grammatical and lexical means employed by Romanian to express progressive aspect (imperfective forms, especially the present and the imperfect, adverbials, aspectual verbs, etc.). Special attention is paid to the verb a sta ‘(lit.) to stay’, that is, to the syntactic patterns in which this verb expresses the progressive.
