Abstract:The Latin word manus is very prolific in meanings and compounds. This study examines the main compounds of manus, which have mainly a legal sense, but also the expressions and contexts in which the word manus occurs.
From the analysis of the compounds, contexts and meanings of manus we see that legal, military and artistic values are preponderant.
Most often, the meanings of the compounds and contexts have an instrumental value, referring to the part of the body by which man became a genuine faber.
The translation of the multiple values of manus demonstrates once again the Latinity of the Romanian language, a language which faithfully inherited the meanings of manus.
Key words:manus, meanings, context, legal field, military field
