| Abstract: | [Ethnology of European Integration: Genuine Marks] There are several arguments pleading for the necessity of an ethnology of European integration at least in countries like Romania which still have a rich traditional cultural heritage. One such argument would be that investigating folk cultures under the circumstances of European integration enables ethnologists to “rescue” fragments of a culture that is fast changing and consequently loses its traditional patterns. Another argument places the ethnology of European integration among the most useful tools for interdisciplinary research by sampling a sociological discourse on European integration and pointing to some flaws of such a discourse that ethnological analysis reveals. The third argument supports the idea that European integration can be looked at as an acculturation process and the ethnology of European integration has to deal with reshaping individual and collective identities during such a process. Finally, ethnology of European integration and ethnology of Europe (as defined by Jean Cuisenier) are compared. |
