Abstract:
The Phaenomena is a poem on constellations and weather-signs that exemplifies the success of a poetic text over a technical prose treatise. Aratos of Soloi put into verse the treatise of Eudoxos of Cnidos: the fate of this work was clearly marked by its poetic virtues, and did not suffer from the ignorance of astronomy his author displayed. The Latin version of Germanicus, Aratea, largely substituted the poem of Aratos during the medieval times.
