Abstract:[Names of inhabitants of countries and territories]
The paper deals with the English, French, German, Italian, Romanian and Spanish names of the inhabitants of independent countries and of dependent territories. In order to study them on a unitary basis, the Inter-institutional style guide of the European Union was used. Comparing the inhabitants’ names from all six languages regarding the same territory, one can conclude that there are certain similarities and also certain differences between languages. Since for Romanian there are no legal settlements about the way the inhabitants’ names should be used, the paper also aims to propose some regulations relative to their form.
Key words:adjective, compound, derivation, name of inhabitants, noun
