| Abstract: | [Names, naming and collective memory in public space: Baia Mare/Romania] The paper discusses names in the public space of Baia Mare and the surroundings from a diachronic perspective. Names are considered as describing and depositing social, cultural, economic and political developments or changes. They are also treated as collective memories, and as factors that contribute to the configuration of a diary of the town, because “Memory [...] is the diary that we all carry about with us” (Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest). |
