Abstract:[Anthroponymic toponymy in the drainage basin of the Neamţ river]
Anthroponymic toponyms are the ones that comprise an anthroponym in their structure. The material analysed in the present study was gathered as a result of field research and from published, sometimes novel, documents. The paper discusses the sociogeographical objects designated and the old age of the toponyms, highlighting an old layer of anthroponymic toponymy and a recent one. A brief comparison between the unofficial system of naming and the official one reveals that official anthroponymic toponyms are most often established by authorities in an arbitrary manner or in order to evoke a historical event or key figures in national culture and history, thereby eliminating old names, which are motivated on the level of the relationship between a name and the designated object. An analysis of the structure of place names in the area under investigation indicates the presence on the toponymic map of three types of toponyms: simple, derivative and compound (toponymic phrases or periphrases).
