Abstract:After the 2nd World War, Romania, like other Eastern European countries, became a Soviet satellite. The consequence – any kind of freedom was abolished and a severe censorship forbids a large number of books, many literary magazines and newspapers.
Fortunately, some Romanian intellectuals managed to escape from the country and settled down to different Western countries, such as France, Spain, Italy, Germany or even some from the American continent. They tried to continue their activity in the free world publishing books, founding publishing houses and especially acting as free journalists. Their main scope was to combat the communist ideology, to maintain the valuable Romanian culture who flourished during the interwar period and also to preserve the Romanian identity.
