Abstract:This paper intends to highlight the ideas that guided Leonardo da Vinci’s life, his understanding of the world and of the human spirit as resulting from his writings. Despite the fragmentary character of the written thoughts of this universal man of the Italian Renaissance, a line of thinking can be well identified through the identification of a series of oppositions that result in the establishment of a behavioral model. Thus the man ows to his Creator and to himself to engage in a continuous quest of truth, intended as light, and of knowledge, intended as love. And love is the supreme asset that a true humanist should possess and share.
Key words:Humanism, Universal Man, responsibility, truth, love
