Abstract:[Consuls, Vice-consuls and Agents at Galatz. Juridical and Historical Aspects in the Functioning of the French Consular Agency (Cognitive Interferences)] The present study is a judicial-historical approach of a subject which so far has been ignored by Romanian historiography, more precisely, the functioning of a Consular Agency in the first half of the 19th century. This study aims at presenting the basis of consular activity, which involves a judicial component. Although for the nineteenth century have been developed a series of studies which refer to the historical context of the establishment of Foreign Consulates in Romania and Galatz, these do not present the consular activity per se, but only the context in which the first consulates were founded. Therefore, in the present study we intend to establish a parallel between the manner in which legal historiography, namely the French one, presented the main elements which formed the basis for the functioning of consular agencies in the nineteenth century, and the manner in which published and unpublished documentary sources presented the French consular activity in Galatz. The consulted material includes archive sources, documentary sources, monographs and judicial and historical syntheses. Through the correlation of data extracted from historiographic and archive sources, we were able to make corrections and additions to the existing material regarding the activities of French diplomatic agents in Galatz.
