Abstract:[A Semiotic Undertaking of the “Tel Quel” Group: Textual Practice] The first article of the program elaborated in 1967 by the group of studies and theoretical reflections formed around the “Tel Quel” magazine (founded in 1960 and managed by Philippe Sollers) proclaims that “a general theory, thought starting with the practice of writing, needs to be developed”. The famous group whose undertaking had been announced, in a way, by the poetical theories of the Russian formalists – the first who refused to explain the text through external causes, aims to realize a functional assembly that would reunite the theory and practice, a theoretical practice and a theory in practice, approaching significant practices as specific labor, operation which has taken place at “Tel Quel” ever since 1963. Our paper “re-reads” and synthetizes, by reinterpreting them, the coordinates of the semiotic undertaking from “Tel Quel”, for which the study of literature as a significant practice “that produces sense and subject” constitutes the central field of semiotics. However, in this case it is a semiotics that became semanalysis (in the conception of J. Kristeva), that is, a constitutive part of a semiotic undertaking, which, in the opinion of the same author, must bring forward the issue of the critical examination of the notion of sign. We will notice that the theory of textual practice sits at “Tel Quel” on a solid textual practice marked by the constitution of literature as text, together with the acceptance of the autonomy of the text.
