Abstract: | The „ambassadors” of France influenced the process of modernization of the Romanian culture at the middle of 19th century. One example is represented by the success of George Sand, whose manners and works were known since 1846 in Bucharest or Iassy, through her French friends visiting Romanian Principalities. They promoted the behaviour and literary work of G. Sand to our high-class by presenting her Parisian fame, adapted and published some of her romances. As a consequence, the glory of this French author was still great among the Romanians, after 1865. |
