Abstract:The transposition of texts created for a public of children does not always follow the same rules of literary translation stricto sensu. This article compares two French texts coming from the same original, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: a translation, mainly aimed at an adult public, and its adaptation for child readers. By analysing the differences between the two texts, it will be possible to understand the adapter’s work and the idea of childhood which underlies his practice.
