Abstract: | Faithfulness in translation is one of the major concerns faced by translators, especially those dealing with literary texts. Being cultural texts par excellence, literary texts are rooted in the culture they describe and thus represent. African literature is a more complex case because of its hybrid character: it is a representation of at least two cultures. The author defines faithfulness in literary translation. In so doing, he draws attention to the necessity of taking into consideration the intention and perspective of the source text. He appeals not only to focus on the receptor’s context and produce adaptations, as it is often the case. |
