Abstract:The first novels of Le Clézio send the idea that human destiny is tragic: prisoner of matter, subject to historical time, to fatality of his existence in this uniform society where any form of standardized spiritual superiority is removed, he no longer finds his reference marks, not knowing who he is. This state of affairs has, paradoxically, a positive side: it must exist to make the individual aware of the loss of himself and to strive to get out of it, to seek authenticity and establish relationships with others based on resposibility and communication. In his search, the character meets the face of the other female character, of the other team, discovers the African or Indian culture. Therefore the main character learns the meaning of peace, freedom, open-mindedness towards the other, respect and responsibility for the other, perfect integration in nature and in cyclical time, where he no longer feels the burden of death. There is an evolution of the character that experiences an essential profound inner change. He becomes other person or he even changes in the other, after he acquires the essential values of “the other’s” life.
