Between the most encountered topics and motives of the Spanish lyricism in the first half of the 15th century, which inherits, directly or indirectly, the conception of the Provencal poets from the ending of the 11th century and beginning of the 12th century, love is included. The usage of religious language with the purpose of expressing the profane love is not new in cancioneros, but it acquires a larger variety and boldness in these collections of poems. This way, the poet shows his compassion towards the inability of the angels to enjoy the feminine presence; he associates his own suffering with the one of Christ; he confesses that he can die of love like a true martyr.We try to analyze, in the following, the ways in which the religious language adapts in the lyrical poetry of Juan Rodriguez del Padrón.
