Abstract:	Approaching the terminology of the textile domain, we have attempted to describe the linguistic profile of the term mătase/silk. Its etymology reflets the ‚journey’ made by the word across two continents, Asia and Europe. The terminology based on this word comprises derivatives, compounds, syntagms and expressions. The terms semantically related to mătase/silk are equally important. They entered Romanian by means of the loan words borrowed from Turkish, French, Italian, German, Bulgarian. Some of them have become international terms. En abordant la terminologie des textiles, nous avons essayé de préciser le profil linguistique du terme mătase/soie. Son étymologie offre l’image du trajet que ce mot a connu sur un espace large, situé sur deux continents, l’Asie et l’Europe. La terminologie créée autour de la soie comprend: dérivés, composés, syntagmes et expressions. Tout aussi importants sont les termes sémantiquement apparentés avec la soie. En roumain, ils sont entrés comme emprunts au turc, français, italien, allemand, bulgare. Par ailleurs, ce sont des termes entrés dans le circuit international.
