| Abstract: | This study Again about old Greek lexical items indirectly borrowed by Balkan languages outlines the evolution of some words of old Greek origin that indirectly entered the Balkan languages. We focused on those elements which exist in all four Balkan languages: Albanian, Bulgarian, Romanian and Serbian. It must be mentioned that this indirect way in which old Greek words penetrated the lexicon of Balkan languages was encouraged by the spread, in the Balkan Peninsula, of Latin, and later, Old Slavonic. The paper consists of a list of words analyzed in alphabetic order, following the Greek alphabet organization. We studied the evolution in the Balkan languages of some words such as: ’άγγελος, ’αγίασµα, ’Άδης, βασιλεύς, βούβαλις, δάσκαλος, σχολή, σµύρνα, φασώλιν, φελλί, ώτος, etc. |
