Our aim is to question the basic principles of iconicity, in respect to both the common and the scientific use of natural languages. We argue for the need to propose some extensions of them. We test the validity and the relevance of these principles on some Romance languages (especially Romanian) and we examine their relevance, but also their limits. The mathematical language and the cosmic language (Freudenthal) as well as the generative approach to the syntax of both natural and formal languages are especially in our attention.
