Abstract:Romanian folk dances are a form of folk art expression within the Balkan-Carpathian space. Their name reflects their connection to the space that gave birth to them, to their anonymous creators and to nature. A series of toponyms is to be found in the terminology of Romanian folk dances. The change from toponyms to dance names is done by means of suffixation. Folk art preserves Romanian onomastics and introduces it to the universal circuit of cultural values.
Key words:folk dances, onomastics, derivation, suffixes, toponyms
