Abstract:It is precisely the question enforced to all those for whom the integration – in the space of a culturally saturated Europe – interweaves with the edification of their own identity: how is the meaning of identity and cultural edification revealed in the perspective of a relaxed integration? What chiefly concerns us is the establishment of the conditions in which the diachronic dialogue of cultures is performed in its historical dimension. On the one hand, when we distinguish certain concurrent patterns, we are rather speaking about a non-dialogue that develops from the total exclusion of the other from the irreconcilable polemics. On the other hand, we may speak about several types of cultural dialogue, from the word addressed to the other to the word that sees integration as the only way of integral edification. In order not to be the subject of an alienating disintegration, which leads to the most darkest fundamentalism, the dialogue must communicate a meaning that releases and enlightens. Where culture is the affirmation of the word of freedom (and of the freedom of the word), where it is the light of a responsible participation in the destiny of man, it expresses an awareness of the co-presence in diversity. It contributes then to the fulfillment of any cliché, understood as something already known, in order to accomplish a vivid community animated by the spirit of communion. Thus the dialogue of cultures not only raises a question of language but – chiefly – a problem of comprehension and interpretation. Therefore, the hermeneutical question we attempted to answer remains always open, as it is always present. The horizon it seeks to clarify is exactly the light of the comprehensible that only shines in the culture of a confessing, grateful word.
