Abstract:[The anthroponymic suffix -ete]
The anthroponymic suffix -ete is functional both at the level of general language and as an anthroponym. It has diminutival and augmentative value. At the level of general language, the suffix -ete derives nouns and adjectives. The names derived with this suffix in general language could be used as nicknames and bynames, changing in time into official family names. They cannot be considered derived anthroponyms. In our view, the etymons of the anthroponyms derived with the suffix -ete are consecrated anthroponyms which function as family names. The number of counties where there are people whose surnames are derivatives with the suffix -ete allows us to identify the areas where such anthroponyms have been created.
