Abstract:The book “Cuvinte de huma” [“Clay Words”] by Constantin Fantaneru reveals beyond cryptic language, deliberately hermetic, the search for metaphysical dimension of existence by religious themes and symbols with recognizable biblical origins. The confidence in the afterlife, the divine inspiration, the salvation through sacrifice, the antinomy heaven-hell, the power of faith and the presence of wonder into the profane contingent define the poetic imagery, dominated by the word’s double valence, punitive and redemptive. Moving from ineffable words to imprecations, it evokes Arghezi’s struggle between faith and denial, while probing metaphysical reality and imagination anchored into the folk, it remembers Blaga’s poetry. Purity and vices, ecstatic state and moral decay and other antinomies are causing self-lyrical laceration, looking without fatigue for the final redemption, for the savior logos.
