Abstract:This study aims multilingualism manifested in the names of companies in Sighet, as a social phenomenon that deserves special attention. Our purpose is observing the balance between signifier and signified in the names of companies and providing a realistic image of the social reality, through suitable instruments of linguistic and sociological analysis, based on a system of concepts that have already entered the socio-linguistic heritage. There are about 1,000 registered companies from Sighet, in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, of which 200 are in the focus of our research. There have been chosen companies from the most accessible area of the city, the central area, the most accesible to pedestrian traffic. There are two substantial sources of data researche: a language source, which has about 200 names of commercial companies and a social resource that consists of a sample of 80 employers and 61 consumers, questioned in order to find out if the language of company names creates a remarcable dynamics in the social life.
