Abstract: | [The aesthetics of transgression in Eugene Ionesco’s drama] This paper is a reflection on the aesthetics of transgression in Eugene Ionesco’s theatre. It is a parallel between Ionesco’s and Caragiale’s language used in plays and a meditation on the dramatic aesthetics of the 20th century. The title defines Eugene Ionescu’s attitude towards the life of his characters and his literary craft, which renders to a certain extent the dialogue of numerous sources of inspiration. Both in France and in Spain, Ionesco’s theater was remarked first of all for his determination to fight for a free, pure and open drama, not conjunctural but universal; his theatre proposed to the public a new aesthetics, imbued with the feeling of angst experienced in Europe by the post-war generation. His plays describe the ridiculous and futile human existence, in a totally unpredictable universe, where, because of their innate limitations, people are incapable of communicating with one another. |
