Abstract:[Reflexion on the theories and schools of translation] We are convinced that the domain of translation is multidisciplinary. The contributions of linguistics, literary criticism, anthropology, psychology, semiotics, philosophy and the sciences of communication are absolutely necessary in order to try to find the answer to the questions the translators ask themselves.
We can see that the linguistic aspects played a very important role so far. But is it enough? Today we witness a silent revolt of certain translation professionals. They argue that the linguistic approach has forgotten the cultural, ideological and political aspects, which are present in almost any text. These extralinguistic factors have not been studied enough. But are we now witnessing a new debate or an epistemological change? The ‘culturalist translator’ has to be critical, aware of the ideological traps and able to discover the implicit censorship of the metatexts.
