| Abstract: | The diphthongs of the Romanian speeches south west of Timisoara are characterised by diversity. Ascending or descending, the diphthongs can be stressed or unstressed and they are situated at the word capital letter, in internal position and at the end of the word. Not only do they appear in words of different origins , but they also have different origins themselves : they are inherited in elements of continuity or they appear as a result of older Latin evolutions, introduced together with certain borrowings. They appeared on Romanian ground especially as a result of spontaneous evolutions. |
