Abstract:The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of the autobiographical prose in the areal of Romanian literature by presenting the works of Mircea Eliade.The name of Mircea Eliade is well known in the universal culture. Besides his work related to the history of religion, his vast literary work includes a large sphere of autobiographical prose. The image of the author emerges like a complex personality. The evolution of the author is developed during a long period of time. The dimension of his identity is rendering in contact with the historical moment of his life, with people he did meet during his grown-up process and ripeness. The plurality of the perspectives of the portraits is unveiling a strong character who is in contact and in conflict with his contemporaries, trying to understand the world and himself. What is specific for the work of Mircea Eliade is the fact that the writer is aware of his destiny and his place inside Romanian and universal culture. His self-awareness is always playing an essential role during the process of building his innermost description of his soul. The methods of presentation of details related to his life is demonstrating his talent and the approach of subjects like love or death is proving the depth of his thinking; that is why the autobiographical prose of Mircea Eliade must take into account like a model of this sort. The self-portrait he is presenting is revealing an individual who has a desire to know everything, to experience everything and to improve hie view of the world.
The conclusion of this work is that the autobiographical prose of Mircea Eliade is one of the most important part of his career broading the genres of Romanian literature.
