| Abstract: | The present paper takes into consideration, critically, the previous etymological explanations of the Bulgarian words текя свам ‘to get bored’, as a dialectal term, and те к ‘model, standard ; (fig.) ‘a bizarre, extravagant person’, as used in colloquial speech. New etymological explanations are propounded for the two words: the etymology of текя свам should not be considered as separate from the one of кекя свам ‘to get bored’, already discussed in Dictionnaire étymologique bulgare; as for те к, it preserves a Turkish archaic term, *terk, as variant of terh ‘plan, project’ (from Persian ṭärḥ ‘plan, project, sketch’). The author takes into account phonetic, morphological and semantic features of the analyzed words. |
