| Abstract: | [Puzzle text-definitions: A special type of alternative definition. Semantic devices and a brief typology] The paper addresses the issue of puzzle text-definitions. We analyze them, within a semantic theoretical frame, as types of meaning devices that express an alternative type to those in which a standard definition pattern such as the dictionary explanatory one would fit. Although unconventional in form or content, the puzzle construct acquires its main reason thanks to the subjectivity that underlies or shapes its creation. Furthermore, by means of certain semantic strategies, the puzzle text-definitions may be grasped as an objective, conventional patterns among other types of definitions, either standard or alternative ones. |
