Abstract:[The correspondence between I. L. Caragiale and Sextil Pușcariu]
There might have existed but one meeting face to face between the philologist S. Pușcariu and the playwright I. L. Caragiale, in August 1911, at Blaj, when the two attended the festivities organized on the occasion of the 50 year celebration of ASTRA (the Transylvanian Association of the Literature and Culture of the Romanian People). Here, when I.L. Caragiale produced a „fragment of a short-story”, which Sextil Pușcariu wrote down on a piece of paper, the two decided to exchange letters about the Romanian language. Unfortunately, in less than a year, the playwright died. The little that has been preserved of their correspondence is published and commented upon in this article.
