Abstract: | [Neologisms of Italian origin in G. Călinescuʼs critical language] G. Călinescu was a great Italianist. Italian origin words are mostly found in critical and literary history studies, where interesting neologisms are discovered. In this article, I have studied some Italian origin neologisms which I have selected from three writings (the monograph “Nicolae Filimon”, the essay of comparative literature “Impressions on Spanish literature” and the collection “Close to Hellas”, works on themes that are related to the language and culture of Italy). I have tried to demonstrate a small part of Călinescuʼs contribution to the modernization of the literary language in a narrow etymological sector of the Romanian language. The selected words have been divided, depending on the etymological criterion, into four categories: adapted words (with one or multiple etymology), partially adapted words, unadapted words and words formed internally. |
