Abstract:Ever since the beginnings of the German Studies Department in Timișoara, in 1956, its researchers have manifested a keen interest in describing German linguistic phenomena in contrast with the Romanian ones. The research methods and themes have evolved from empirical contrastive analyses to contrastive research in the fields of grammar or lexical semantics (1970-1990) up to translation studies research (after 1990). Since the introduction of the Applied Modern Languages programme within the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology in 2005, the German Studies translatological research in Timișoara has experienced a remarkable evolution, whose results can be seen both in the teaching staff’s published works and in the students’ graduation theses. This paper aims to systematise the present German Studies translatological research in Timișoara in order to provide an overview of the tendencies and directions of its evolution.
