Abstract:The present paper sets out to follow the trajectory of the poetic art of the Provencal troubadours, which emerged at the beginning of the twelfth century in Occitania and has taken various forms in various cultures all the way to the present. Nietzsche considered them the true founders of modern European culture, while Ayn Rand viewed the troubadour as “the spiritual ancestor or the symbol of the Romantic man” (Rand 1975, 118). Almost a millennium after the appearance of the troubadour art, it is interesting to investigate the extent to which we can preserve unchanged that combination of love and poetry when translating it into various cultures.
Key words:troubadour, l’art de trobar, Provencal poetry, poetic art, fixed form poetry
