Abstract: | The paper attempts to offer an image of the figure of the good ruler, as it appears in Fraţii Jderi by Mihail Sadoveanu and in Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Trilogy. Stephen the Great, respectively Jeremi Wiśniowiecki are both analyzed in an historical and novelistic context as real individuals and transfigured characters, the author examining their relations to their subjects and the way they are perceived by the latter under various circumstances. We can notice that both of them belong not only to the historical time, but also to the mytical time, being heroes of epic novels and providing a connection between the sacred and the profane. |
