Abstract:[Conventional and unconventional in the toponymy of typological structures and aesthetic models in the plein-air paintings of the Baia Mare Art Centre]
The painters’ colony of Baia Mare has established itself as an important artistic center on the map of art colonies in Central and Eastern Europe, which appeared at the end of the 19th century along with the colonies in Barbizon, Dachau, Zakopanne and others. The 120 years since the establishment of the colony’s plein-air school in Baia Mare have provided numerous landscape motifs, all of which soon became aesthetic models for creative artists who arrived and painted in this part of the world. The motifs of the Baia Mare plein-air painting have become entrenched in the conscience of artists, art historians and theoreticians, as well as regular inhabitants, as conventional landmarks in relation to structures of landscape typology. Moreover, the freedom of creation determined by symbols, signs, elements of plastic language morphology transformed the artistic message in an unconventional painting space.
