Abstract:[Names of Jewish characters in Hungarian and Austrian comic papers in the second half of the 19th century]
The paper aims to analyse the family names of Jewish figures in comic papers. The family names were grouped into the following categories: names referring to animals, plants, natural objects, crafts, external or internal characteristics, and nicknames. The analysis demonstrates that most of the examples of German or yiddish family names can be found in records of birth, marriage and death as well. The examination was expanded to include the analysis of Jewish first names. One can observe that authors gave Jewish figures biblical names but did not follow the existing trends of full naming. Lastly, the paper reviews the order of family and first names, because the Hungarian and German name orders differ.
Key words:comic papers, family names of Jewish figures, first names, name order
