Abstract: | [Unconventional given names: The issue of the adaptation of foreign names and hypocoristics] Spanish legislation has welcomed a series of modifications which have allowed for the adoption of newly-coined personal names. The following paper goes through the criteria used by the Academia Valenciana de la Llengua in adapting two different types of given names, which usually appear in the Spanish onomastic corpus: names of foreign origins and popular versions of traditional names or hypocoristics. |
