Abstract:[Conventional and unconventional in anthroponomy: A contrastive analysis of Italian and Hungarian forename-giving]
The paper is a contrastive excursus between Italian and Hungarian about the possibility of interpretation of the concepts conventional and unconventional in surname-giving. The first part of the study gives some possible interpretations of the two concepts (conventional is basically interpreted as ʻusual, traditional in a system’ and unconventional as ʻnot usual, not familiar in a system’) and their reciprocal connections. In the second part there are enumerated the most important differences between the two first-name systems from the perspective of Hungarian (names of parents, names that reveal the origin of a person, names in derivative forms, foreign names and “ideological” names).
Key words:anthroponyms, first names, name-giving, contrastive analysis
Language: Italian
