Abstract:[The plural vocation of pseudonyms on the Internet]
The Internet triggers the redefinition of users’ identity, transcribed in the pseudonyms that become their means of digital identification. The use of pseudonyms in virtual society is defined by the creativity underlying this onomastic type; however, besides nomination, these autonyms can also fulfil other functions. Thus, Internet users may employ their pseudonyms in a communicative manner, as an answer to the specific thematics of a forum or in order to provide feedback to certain online publications. At the same time, pseudonyms can reveal a user’s political affiliation, or convey various opinions and feelings related to a given situation.
This paper examines a corpus of pseudonyms collected from the Internet. It analyses their plural vocation, as well as the redefinition of the notion of identity that they entail.
