Abstract: | [Names of Theotokos – Metaphors of death and pain] This paper, a study in Greek anthroponomastics, aims to highlight the names given in iconography to the Mother of God (Theotokos), which are related to the sphere of death and, by extension, pain. The research is based on an etymological and semantic analysis of Greek epithets (Theotokonymia), also pointing out their derivation in Romanian and the possible correspondences in other international languages. The discussed epithets stand for names rich in meaning, from different points of view, pertaining to linguistics and theology and connected through the art of icons. |
