Abstract:[The oil industry, a source of scientific terminology and onomastics]
Since the Middle Ages, oil generated in Romanian space the emergence of some “hydronyms” (a “black spring” was recorded during the reign of Alexander the Good) and some toponyms (a “hill of oil” was recorded in the time of Neagoe Basarab). Exploitation and development in the modern oil industry generated the appearance of a vast range of terminology presented in specialised dictionaries. Oil was the base of the origin of some anthroponyms and toponyms and, in modern times, the base of social onomastics. Some of the toponyms in Prahova county are: the commune of Păcureţi (1573), Câmpina (1872) – the district of fuel oil, the commune of Păcuri, the village of Surani (1897) and others.
