Abstract:[Name inheritance with reference to funerary inscriptions from Roman Dacia]
The present study discusses the analysis of names found in funerary inscriptions, their transmission to legitimate children or to illegitimate ones, as well as new names of adopted children. I will also refer to what a contubernium relationship implied, both for the transmission of the name and for the freedman who received his owner’s patronym. Moreover, I will discuss unions between slaves or stable relations between citizens and slaves (mentioned epigraphically) and name inheritance for children resulting from these unions. In the course of this study, references will be made to the existence of ethnic groups in Dacia, identified epigraphically, based on the mention of their tribe, the name system used or, depending on the case, the existence of texts in their own language in the field to which an inscription pertains.
