Abstract:[How can given names be treated in a dictionary of dialects? Case study: Representation of the given name ‘Maria’ in the Transylvanian-Saxon dictionary (TSD)]
240 different Transylvanian-Saxon idioms were once spoken in Transylvania; their phonetic, grammatical and semantic peculiarities have been captured and processed by the TSD according to scientific principles. The dictionary cites even given names with phonetic variances or names which may be documented as common nouns. The intention of my article is to demonstrate via a case example in what manner a widespread given name can be represented in the TSD.
Key words:dialect, case study, common noun, idiom, Transylvanian Saxon, phonetic variances, given name
