Abstract:During the last ten years, the interest in the Romanian language and culture has continuously increased. This article offers a brief overview of the evolution of Romanian Studies at the University of Zurich in Switzerland in the last 50 years and informs about the new courses, didactic means and initiatives that reinforce the teaching activity in the Swiss academic environment.
After a short presentation of the past situation of the Romanian Studies and the Romanian Library in Zurich, I will present the new developments and the statistical data of the Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degrees in Romanian Language and Literature. I will focus on the strategies that Romanian born students adopt in order to preserve their cultural identity and I will present some results of a study on the language and identity of the Romanian diaspora in Switzerland. I will conclude with a brief presentation of the student exchange programs between Switzerland and Romania and the Romanian Open Access Learning Environments at the University of Zurich.
