Abstract:[The Online Interview: A Few Remarks on the Presuppositions of Its Use] The interview represents a classical method within the field of social sciences, which entered quite a long time ago their generally accepted methodological canon. The development of new media seriously multiplied the ways of doing an interview, but it also lead to controversy concerning its limits and advantages. From this standpoint, I shall try to draw a meta-profile of the online interview, following two important categories – the one which uses synchronous communication (instant messaging, videoconferences, VoIP) and the one that is based on asynchronous communication (e-mail, mainly). Thus, I think that the latter case rewrites the old debate between computer-mediated communication and face-to-face communication. In the case of synchronous interview (especially when it comes to videoconferences and VoIP), the technological facilities that led to a better similitude between computer-mediated communication and face-to-face communication seem to diminish the “gold standard” of the traditional interview. Moreover, these facilities built the frame for a higher degree of acceptance of the online interview in scientific research.
