Abstract: | [Challenges Raised by Visual Arts in the Approach to Moral Education] In a confused and unstable climate, the art of the 90s changed its appearance by denying traditional assessment values, being characterized by a dissolution of the abstract symbols and “decentring” towards the margins promoting the deformity, the ill-form or the abjection, by means of the public display of bodily fluids, dirt or scatological material that made up the physical body of the art object. By motivating an ideology of discrimination of the “feedstock” (concept of historical materialism) the contemporary artistic object caused a split between the public and art. The series of artistic actions that generated public debates in recent decades have called into question the ethical – aesthetic balance able to restore the balance of moral and behavioral values in art, where we can see „the signs of an ethic psychopathology: rudeness, lack of faith, despair, catastrophic visions, aggression”. We wonder whether the contemporary artist’s work can be a phenomenon of the multiple moral incarnations able to respond positively to our wishes, aspirations, beliefs, and if the artist wants a reconsideration of balance, order and harmony able to lead us to perfection, state of well being and beauty? Nowadays, we can see a slight imbalance between art and moral education, but we cannot say that art is moral or immoral in its nature. |
