| Abstract: | [Reshaping History through Memory: Ana Blandiana’s Fals tratat de manipulare] An important direction in approaching Romanian history after 1989 relied on the capitalization of autobiographic literature. Ana Blandiana’s last volume, Fals tratat de manipulare, provides a valuable territory for a reconsideration of history. The writer elaborates on topics such as communism, censorship, self-becoming and self-preservation, recent history, relationship with the otherness. The distance provided by the passing of time clears the perspective and doubles the (re)lived present. Hence, the volume has a double importance – on the one hand, it is a historic restitution of things passed, and, on the other hand, it offers a rather self-critical approach on how one can play a role in or let herself be played by history. A close reading of Ana Blandiana’s last piece of writing enables us to inquire into the way in which memory, history and forgetfulness interlace, on how the self-becoming and the self-preservation evolve in relation to the otherness, on the complex mechanism of manipulating and counterfeiting history, but also on how plausible – yet minimalistic – versions of the same history may complete the History. |
