| Abstract: | Title: The Gospel of Luke and the Birth of Jesus Christ in the Light of New Evidence from Papyri. Arguments for the Authenticity of the Nativity Story. This paper argues that Luke must be taken seriously as a historian. New papyri show that the nativity story, as related by Luke, contains impor- tant information on the background of Jesus’s family and property. A reevaluation of his account shows that Luke can be trusted and that the birth of Jesus Christ probably took place in 6 AD, the year of the Census of Quirinius. |
